Good News for Tibet travelers!!

China has opened the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung transit point along Nepal-Tibet (China) border for foreign tourists effective from August 28, 2017. The decision holds great significance for Nepali tourism industry as operators can now send tourists to Tibet from Nepal via this transit point which lies only about 160 kilometers form Kathmandu and is just about six hour’s drive away. This is the first time that this route has been opened after the earthquakes of 2015 which caused serious infrastructure damage at the transit point and also claimed many lives. Many Indian and foreign tourists use Nepal as the entry point to travel to Tibet. While Indians travel to Tibet mainly for pilgrimage to Kailash-Mansarovar area, foreigners go there to visit Lhasa and other Tibetan cities as well as the Kailash-Mansarovar area. The new transit point will ease journey of both Indians and foreign tourists. The opening of new route will significantly ease entry procedure to Tibet. So far, Nepali tour operators have been sending tourists to Tibet either via flight – flying directly to Lhasa – or via Kathmandu-Nepalgunj-Simikot-Hilsa route. This is good and optimistic news for both travelers and Nepalese tour operators as many international tourists visit Tibet (China) every year via Nepal. The new transit point provides foreign tourists interested to visit Tibet via Nepal an easy option. They can enter Tibet on the same day the leave Kathmandu. This will reduce the travel distance as well as can bring down travel cost.
