Lhasa- Kharta Valley-EBC trek takes you on a spectacular journey into the cultural and natural riches of Tibet. You begin with a fantastic flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, which offers splendid views of the Himalayas.

Lhasa is the capital of Tibet, the epicenter of rich Tibetan culture and lifestyles. You will explore the thousand-room Potala Palace, Norbulinghka Monastery, Barkhor Street, and Drepung Monastery among others. 

The next destination is the northern Everest Base Camp. To reach there we will drive through Tingri and Shigatse which offers marvelous views of the Tibetan landscape. En route, you will be able to capture scenic natural views as well as meet nomadic herders of Tibet and their nomadic lifestyle. You will be able to visit the Rongbuk Monastery, one of the oldest and highest monasteries that offers spiritual solace to every traveler and mountaineer heading to Everest.

The visit to Kharta Valley will be filled with adventure. Kharta Valley stands on the bank of the Kharta Tsangpo River. The valley is dotted with beautiful green hills, meadows, streams, and rivers. To reach there we will have to cross several high passes including Pand La Pass in Chu Valley. Every pass will offer awesome views of Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and Shishapangma among others.

Day 01:Fly from Kathmandu to Lhasa. Spend the rest of the afternoon acclimatizing with the altitude.

Detail Itinerary

Day 02LhasaToday is the day for Lhasa exploration. Lhasa is at the heart of Tibet’s cultural riches. Potala Palace: The imposing figure of Potala Palace will enchant every traveler. A grand tour of the palace will take at least three hours. The palace is 13 stories high and has 1000 rooms. Each of these rooms contain ancient religious texts, murals depicting many Buddhas, statues, thangkas prayer rooms and more. Jokhang Temple: Dating back to 7th century Jokhang temple is dedicated to Sakyamuni Buddha statue and sits right at the centre of Lhasa. Norbulingka palace: Norbulingka is one of the most visited palaces in Lhasa. Constructed in the 8th century by the 7th Dalai Lama, Norbulingka consists of numerous impressive buildings that were built by various Dalai Lamas.

Day 04Lhasa-Shigatse The drive to Shigatse (3900m) takes us about 3 hours. Shigatse is the home of Tashilhunpo Monastery. It is also the second largest city of Tibet.

Day 05Shigatse-Sakya-Shegar/Dingri Our drive further takes us through friendship highway as we head towards Shegar. Along the way we will drop in Sakya monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in Tibet. We will pass over the Gyamtso La (5220m) the highest pass in Tibet and get to know the nomadic herders of Tibet.

Day 06Shegar-Kharta: Our drive from Shegar to Khatra takes about 5 hours. We will cross over Pand La pass in Chu Valley that offers awesome views of Makalu, Lhotse, Everest, and Shishapangma. Chu valley will open us to Khatra valley on the banks of Kharta Tsangpo River.

Day 07Begin Trek From today we start our trekking. As we pass Tibetan villages above 13000 feet, we will follow meadows and streams before descending down to Khatra Tsangpo Valley.

Day 08Shao La Shao La at 16,300 feet offers spectacular views of Makalu, Lhotse and Everest. To reach Shao La pass is our objective today. A wide range of scenery awaits you from barren rocky hills to forests of rhododendrons, willow and birch. We will descend to Joksum for night’s camp.

Day 09Trek Today’s trek is partly steep as we pass through the forests of juniper and rhododendron. You will be able to see the Kama River snaking along the valleys and hanging glaciers. Further ahead we will come across yak shelter and a green lake.

Day 10Trek Today we will follow the path of Kama River to reach Khangsung Valley, one of the highlights of the trek. The valley is a beautiful sight of flowers such as juniper, willow and rhododendron, juniper. The Khangsung valley offers inspiring views of Everest, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, Tshertse, Petangtse, Chomolonzo and Makalu among others.

Day 11Pethang Ringmo The path ahead of Pethang is rewarded with an incredible sight of Chomolomzo glaciers. As we roll down the mountains into the Okpa meadow, which offers exceptional views of Everest, Lhotse, and Tserse. Pethang Ringmo is located at the altitude of 16,000 feet from the sea level.

Day 12Khangshung Valley- Base Camp (Optional Hiking) Today you will spent time acclimatizing to the climate. You can hike up the Khangshung Valley, the trail used by expedition climbing Everest.

Day 13Raabka Chu Our trek further takes us over Khangshung Glacier into the settlement of Pethang before wading through Raabka Chu. The hike will take 4 hours.

Alternately, we can go via Pethang Ringmo. Along the way we can visit Guru Rimpoche's cave located at Tse Chu Lake. We will be crossing Lamtsho pass at 16,200 feet.

Day 14Raabka Chu To Tso Tshurigma Today we will enter Khangsung Valley. Our trek takes us to Pangboche through alpine slopes before reaching the base of Langma La. At 17,000 feet Langma offers spectacular views of Makalu and Everest.

Day 15Tsho Tshurigma To Troshay Meadow Camp The walk ahead of us is through a steep rocky hill. Once we cross the Langma La pass our path descends quickly through rocky boulders and glacier valley called Troshay.

Day 16Troshay To Kharta Troshay is linked to Khartak by a small stream surrounded by rolling hills filled with green grasses. You will be able to spot quaint beautiful Tibetan villages and open fields rich with potatoes and barley. Further up we will hike over Shao La to reach Yulba village.

Day 17Rongbuk Monastery/Everest Base Camp Kharta is the last station before we head to Rongbuk monastery. Rongbuk monastery is perhaps the highest monastery in the Tibetan plateau which offers a spiritual center for all travelers.

Day 18Rongbuk Monastery/EBC Today we will walk up to Everest Base Camp. Located just 4 km from Rongbuk, the walk provides a spectacular hike through Dza Rongphu Glacier. After exploring the base camp we will come back to Rongbuk

Day 19Tingri Plains It will take us 6 hours drive from Rongbuk to Nyalam along a stretch of Tingri plains.

Day 20To Kathmandu After breakfast we will drive from Nyalam to Zhangmu. The drive takes about an hour pass the beautiful waterfalls before we reach the friendship bridge between China and Nepal over the Bhotekoshi River. We will cross the Nepal-China border in Kodari and head towards Kathmandu.
