The Mardi Himal Base Camp Trek is one of Nepals best-kept secrets, a perfect blend of pristine nature, off-the-beaten-path adventure, and breathtaking Himalayan scenery. Nestled in the heart of the Annapurna region, this short and moderate trek offers a peaceful escape into nature, far from the crowded trails of Annapurna Base Camp or Everest.

WHAT CAN YOU SEE IN MARDI HIMAL TREK?

The Mardi Himal trek takes you through enchanted rhododendron forests until you climb out of the forest at an elevation of around 3,300 meters, a rugged high mountain landscape, and see amazing views of Mardi Himal, Machapuchre, Annapurna South, and Himchuli. After climbing up to Mardi Himal Base Camp (3-4 hours) by crossing high camp (3700m), which offers spectacular, close-up views of the entire Annapurna Range.

HOW’S THE ACCOMMODATION IN MARDI HIMAL TREK?

There are simple guest houses and homestays are available in route. But the guest houses are served with clean rooms and toilets whereas, in Kathmandu and Pokhara, you will be accommodated according to your choices.

WHEN TO GO TREK?

Autumn seasons September, October, and November are the best times to do the trek in Mard Himal. March, April, and May is the second-best season of the year to go trekking. December, January, and February are also favorable as these months the skies are clear but it can get very cold and there is a risk of passes being closed due to snowfall.

May and June is also the best time for the hike as it is a pre-monsoon season. Here, at this stage the climate is warm indeed, the valley starts to bloom with flowers, and green leaves come up. June - Mid-September is Monsoon season and the least popular time to go trekking in Nepal. The risk of leeches and downpours increases greatly.

HOW TO GET MARDI HIMAL AND AWAY?

The Mardi Himal Trek is located in the Annapurna region, so the trek starts and ends in Pokhara - the third biggest city. Among all the trekking trail of the Annapurna Region starts from Pokhara but the Annapurna Circuit trek only start with another destination. Pokhara can be reached by a short flight 25 min from Kathmandu and either by a seven-hour drive from Kathmandu or a 30-minute drive from Pokhara to Phedi.

HOW FIT SHOULD I BE?

Mardi Himal is a short trek and, therefore, doesn´t require super fitness however, a moderate level of fitness is necessary though there is no direct climbing involved. The Mardi Himal trek leads over some rocky sections near the high camp and base camp. The Wilderness Excursion advises our clients going trekking to see a doctor before they go for a check-up and to talk about dealing with altitude sickness. For pure trekking along the Mardi Himal trek in Nepal, you´ll need to consider the number of days you´ll be out trekking to get an idea of how fit you should be. Most days of this trek include 4-7 hours of slow hiking.
