How to get to the entry point of the Gokyo Lake Chola pass trek?

The entry point for the Gokyo Lake Chola Pass Trek is typically the town of Lukla in the Solu Khumbu region of Nepal.

To get to Lukla, you will need to fly from Kathmandu to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, which is considered one of the most challenging and exciting airports in the world due to its short runway and location in the mountains. The flight takes approximately 35 minutes and is operated by a few domestic airlines in Nepal such as Sumit Airline, Tara Air, and Sita Air. You can book your flight in advance through a travel agency or directly with the airline.

Once you arrive in Lukla, you can start the trek to Gokyo Lake and Chola Pass, which typically takes around 12-14 days, depending on your pace and itinerary. Its advisable to hire a guide or porter to accompany you on the trek, as the terrain can be challenging and the weather conditions can be unpredictable.

WHAT IS THE BEST TIME FOR A GOKYO LAKE TREK?

The best time for a Gokyo Lake trek is during the pre-monsoon season (March-May) and the post-monsoon season (September-November). During these seasons, the weather is generally stable, and the skies are clear, providing excellent views of the mountains and lakes. The temperature is also moderate, making it comfortable for trekking.

The pre-monsoon season (March-May) is also the spring season when the rhododendrons are in full bloom, making the trek even more beautiful. The post-monsoon season (September-November) is the autumn season when the skies are generally clearer, and the mountain views are at their best.

During the monsoon season (June-August), the region receives heavy rainfall, making the trails slippery and the weather unpredictable. Trekking during this season is not recommended due to the risk of landslides, floods, and other hazards. The winter season (December-February) is also not recommended for the Gokyo Lake trek as the temperature drops below freezing, and the trails may be covered in snow, making it difficult to trek. However, if you are well-prepared for extreme cold weather and have experienced trekking in such conditions, you can still do the trek.

WHAT DO YOU NEED FOR THE GOKYO LAKE TREK?

Here is a list of essential items you need for the Gokyo Lake trek:
