Is Everest Trek Right for You?

The Everest (Sagarmatha) trek has attracted adventurers from around the world since the 1950s, after Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay's legendary summit in 1953. Originally, trekkers had to walk from Jiri, taking over a week to reach Namche Bazaar. But since the 1970s, most now begin the trek from Lukla after a short flight from Kathmandu, thanks to the Tenzing-Hillary Airport.

However, it's important to know that flights to and from Lukla are frequently delayed or canceled during peak trekking seasons (spring and autumn) due to unpredictable weather and heavy air traffic. For travelers with limited time or tight budgets, these delays can cause significant disruptions.

If you're short on time or trying to manage costs carefully, we recommend exploring other beautiful treks in Nepal that are more flexible and less dependent on air travel. Nepal offers many incredible alternatives with breathtaking views and rich cultural experiences—without the logistical challenges of reaching Everest Base Camp.
