Trip Introduction

Laya Gasa Trek

Laya Gasa Trek is a moderate to difficult trek involving a challenging journey through high Himalayan valleys and passes. The average height of trekking and camping is at an altitude of 4000m, and we will be crossing the three highest passes, namely Jhari La (4747m), Nyele La (4890m), and Sinchu La (5005m). We will be pitching our highest camp at the height of 4200m at Robluthang. Part of this trek runs through the Jhomolhari trek. The traditional approach is through Drukyel Dzong in Paro via Lingzhi and runs parallel to the Tibetan border until we reach Laya. We will have enough time to acclimatise in Jhomolhari base camp.

The four-hour climb to Jhomolhari Base Camp at 4750m will be exciting as well as exhilarating. The base camp will offer amazing views of Mt. Jhomolhari (7,314m),  Mt. Tserim Kang (6789m) and Mt. Jichhu Drake (6,989m).  The trek will offer plenty of opportunities to sight wildlife such as red panda, black-necked crane, Tibetan snow cocks and blue sheep. The ridge above Laya affords the views of Masang Gang (7,165m) and will lead us to Gasa, famous for Gasa hot springs.

The best season for this trek is during Spring and Autumn. However, you should be prepared for rain or snowfall. You will be provided with a full trekking team that includes Sirdars, cooks, a trekking guide, along with horses and yaks.
