Despite its short duration, Ghorepani Poonhill Ghandruk hike provides breathtaking mountain scenery, dense rhododendron woods, waterfalls, and a vibrant local culture. It is located in the Annapurna area and is great for individuals who want to experience adventure, nature, and culture.
How to Get to Ghorepani–Poon Hill Trek
After landing in Kathmandu, you will be taken on a guided sightseeing tour of the city, which will include visits to Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple), and Pashupatinath Temple. The next day, fly to Pokhara for 30 minutes or drive for 5-6 hours. After touring Pokhara, you will board a bus to Nayapool, which takes around 2 hours and is the beginning point for the trip. The hiking path is as follows: from Nayapool to Tikhedhunga, then to Ghorepani, Tadapani, Ghandruk, Pokhara, and finally Kathmandu.
What to See on the Trek
The path crosses through Gurung and Magar communities, providing an opportunity to learn about local culture and customs. You’ll walk through dense rhododendron woods, take in views of Mt. Machhapuchhre, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri, and Mt. Himchuli, and witness waterfalls, terraced farms, and colourful vegetation. Poon Hill (3,210m) is a must-see for sunrise views across the Himalayas, along with panoramic panoramas of snow-capped peaks. Ghandruk Village is a lovely hilltop village that includes Gurung culture, a museum, a monastery, and the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) headquarters. From here, you can see Mt. Machhapuchhre, Annapurna South, and Himchuli.
Accommodation
Accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara is determined by your preferences. Along the trail, teahouses and lodges provide twin-sharing accommodations, with single rooms available upon request. In Ghorepani and Ghandruk, rooms usually have connected bathrooms, clean bedrooms, and toilets.

The Ghorepani-Poon Hill walk is easy to moderate and ideal for novices. The major obstacle is the steep ascent from Tikhedhunga to Ghorepani, which entails 3,380 stone steps and an elevation increase of 1,385 meters in a single day. The time of your trek is determined by your fitness level and how frequently you stop to take in the surroundings.

Like the majority of the treks, the Ghorepani Poonhill Ghandruk Trek offers you accommodation in tea houses with basic facilities. Every Tea house has a menu, and you can make your own choice. But most of the foods are dominated by the Nepali Dal-Bhat and similar meals. Our guide will suggest you select fresh, hygienic, and trek-suitable food.
